Can you imagine Television programs for about 4 hours a day, with only one channel to choose from? Well that was a reality not that long back. I am talking about the late 1970s and early 1980s. This blogpost is an attempt to simply list the programs, serials, characters and advertisements from those Black & White TV days. Hoping that readers will contribute further to this list, as well as share their thoughts around these programs.
There used to be programmes featuring Manohar Mahajan for Children in Hindi ,Surabhi by Renuka Shahane and Siddarth kak on culture curry,In marathi there was a programme hosted and compared by a girl by surname Naik for children,Another personality was Prof Yash Pal who used to do a programme on science
those days life was so simple and healthy.we used to love the outdoors and playing outside with your friends was a must.I guess we are the lucky generation who were witness to the beginning of the INFORMATION WORLD,but at the same time we never lost the fun of those innocent outdoor child hood games and pranks.for me the marathi picture on saturday was a must,i could not miss that even if i missed the hindi movie on sunday.probably bcoz marathi movies were more realistic and meaningful rather than the fantasy filled hindi ones.
We have numbers of channels and countless TV programmes now but all we really do is channel surfing. Apart from few Paksitani serials on Zindagi, not even a single daily soap can be compared to Doordarshan serials of those days. I bet you remember most of the shows that you used to watch during your childhood. All those serials, be itHum LogorUdaanorMalgudi Days, were crisp, had good content and most importantly were not never-ending like the daily soaps we watch nowadays.
We can't bring back those serials on TV (how I wish we could) but we can for sure take you back in time and remind you of those lovely days of your childhood. Here are few DD serials (in no particular order) that I am sure you would love to watch again. Go ahead, watch first episode of all your favourite serials and get nostalgic. That's the least we can do for you.Byomkesh Bakshi
